Review: Destiny Kills (Myth and Magic) by Keri Arthur

Title: Destiny Kills
Author: Keri Arthur
Series: Myth and Magic
Genre: Paranormal Romance

Reviewer: Vhampy

This is the first book in the Myth and Magic series by Keri Arthur. This book was published in October of 2008 and I'm glad I didn't read it until now because the second book isn't going to be released until May 2011! That is just TOO long for this Vhampy to wait on the goods!

This story is a little different than your normal paranormal romances because people, we are dealing with dragons here. Air and sea dragons. Who knew??

This story is about Destiny. She is a half breed. Her father is an air dragon and her mother is a sea dragon. Even though air dragon magic is in her blood, she really is a sea dragon and can call the sea to do her bidding .

Destiny has had a hard life by being kidnapped by some scientists that are trying to understand the workings of dragons. Yes, the dragons were experimented on and horrible things were done to them but thank goodness the author didn't go into that great of a detail. Abuse really isn't my thing.

While Destiny tries to save her family and friends from the nasty scientists, she meets Trae. He is an air dragon. Who knew air dragons could be so freaking hot?

I can't give everything away but this was a very good read and a perfect set up for the next book. I'm anxious to see what the author does with the series. I'm hooked.

My rating: ****

Celebrate Women!!!

A lot of read romance in general, because of the men and their unique personalities and attributes. I know I do! ;-) Today, I thought it would be fun to celebrate the women of fiction! Who is your favorite heroine and why? Be creative and find lesser known female leads and, if you want, include a book title and/or author so that others can discover these amazing women!

REVIEW: The Knife Of Never Letting Go

Author: Patrick Ness
Genre: Young Adult

Review by: Jessica

  • Prentisstown isn't like other towns. It's a town where everyone can hear each others thoughts and see their memories. A town where everyone can hear the thoughts of their animals and are able to talk to them (whether they want to or not). A town where there are no *living* women. Just the memories and endless thoughts from the Noise of the men who live in Prentisstown. Never.Ending.Noise.

Just 1 short month away from his 13th birthday, the birthday that will make him a man, Todd Hewitt discovers something he's never encountered before. Silence. As shocked as he is by this, he instinctively knows that he must keep it a secret from the men of Prentisstown. But with everyone able to read his Noise (whether he likes it or not), his secret is quickly given away and he is forced to go on the run. To run away from the only people, the only home he's ever known.

While on the run, Todd Hewitt slowly learns that Prentisstown isn't what it really seems and that the men have been keeping a secret. Now Todd "moosed warren", the rest of the world. The world that he never knew existed until he was forced from his town.

I had many feelings while reading this book. I was slightly irritated in the beginning, learning the language and world the author created. The run-on sentences and the spelling mistakes that aren't meant as mistakes. All of it. How annoyed I felt because it felt like Todd was just running and running and never getting anywhere and how the book felt like it was just dragging. And just when I was ready to throw in the towel, and chuck the book out of the window IT SUCKED ME RIGHT IN AND GOT NICE AND GOOD. And when I felt like I couldn't take one more "Poo, Todd?" it GREW ON ME! and I found myself liking Manchee and his simple minded doggy brain. And I was finally understanding "ruddy" Todd Hewitt and his never ending askings. The book just got good. Like really REALLY can't put me down kind of GOOD!

I would definetely recommend this to anyone who likes YA books like The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins (though really there is no real comparison to the Hunger Games Trilogy). Don't let the language and constant Noise turn you away. Give it a shot because it's GOOD!! Such a good start to what looks to be a great series!

Review: How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf

Title: How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf
Author: Molly Harper
Series: How to (book 1)
Genre: Paranormal Romance

Reviewed by: Vhampy

This is the first book in the How to series by Molly Harper.

This story focuses on Mo, a woman who leaves her clingy, hippy family in the middle of the night and drives from the southern United States to Alaska to discover herself.

Mo is a quirky, snarky woman who just wants to live the first time in her life. In Alaska she is quickly welcomed into the town and takes a job as a cook at the local (and only) diner in town.

Since Mo is the new woman in town, all of the local males are drawn to her but there is one man, Cooper, who is mysterious and deadly. Of course he is the one she wants!

Cooper...he makes me howl. *wink* He meets my requirements of being a hot bastard. He's had a tough life, family issues, trying to find his way into manhood and did I mention...he is freaking sexy?

While reading this book, I found I was anticipating what would happen next. This is your typical werewolf-human love story but what made this book fun for me was the author. She entwined humor through most of the book and I appreciate a good laugh.

I'm looking forward to the next installment in this series.

Meet ASH and the Dark Hunters

She would give the goddess Artemis credit, Artemis had exquisite taste in men; and to Tabitha's knowledge, and according to Amanda's words, there was no such thing as an ugly Dark Hunter. She couldn't really fault the goddess for that. If you had to pick men for your own personal army, what woman woudn't pick the tallest and best-looking of the bunch?
It also explained why Acheron was their leader.

ASH WEDNESDAY

ASH WEDNESDAY

"You would give John Travolta a run for his money." (Tory)
"Yeah, and I’m sorry about my clothes. I tried, but I just couldn’t bring myself to wear that. Hell, I couldn’t do the disco look even when it was popular. I swear I’m allergic to polyester. Thank God for the punk movement. Otherwise I’d have been naked for a decade." (Acheron)

(Acheron, Sherrilyn Kenyon)

Ash´s story

So sad.. *sigh*

ASH WEDNESDAY

ASH WEDNESDAY

At six feet-eight, Ash always stood out in a crowd. Like her, he was dressed all in black. His Godsmack T-shirt was untucked and a bit large, but even so it didn't detract from that fact that Ash was seriously ripped. And his custom made leather pants cupped a butt so prime, it begged for a groping.

(Seize the Night, Sherrilyn Kenyon)

ASH WEDNESDAY

Happy ASH Wednesday!!!

Happy Ash Wednesday!!!!

"Don't let those people steal your day"
Sherrilyn Kenyon (Acheron)

"In our past lies our future. By our own hands and decisions we will be damned and we will be saved. Whatever you do, put forth your best effort even if all you're doing is chasing a never ending rainbow. You might never reach the end of it, but along the way you'll meet people who will mean the world to you and make memories that will keep you warm on even the coldest nights"
Sherrilyn Kenyon (Acheron)

"How did you get me here? (Tory)
I have my evil Jedi ways. The Force is strong with this one. (Acheron)"

The dark side of Ash

"I never wanted you to see me like that."
"See you like what?"
"A monster. I despise my true form."
She shook her head at him as he put his arms around her waist. "I can't imagine why. Other than killing me, you were actually cute in a very Papa Smurf kind of way."
"Papa Smurf?" He made a sound of ultimate suffering and scowled at her. "I don't look like Papa Smurf."
"No, baby," she said in a feigned patronizing tone as she playfully patted his cheek, "you don't at all. You look like sex on a stick. Now is your ego all better?"

(Acheron, Sherrilyn Kenyon)

ASH WEDNESDAY

Happy ASH Wednesday :-)

He turned and what little sanity she had fled. Yes, he still had those annoying sunglasses on, but the top button of his jeans hadn't been fastened. They rode low on his hips, and the dark trail of hair that ran south of his naval was slightly thicker at the opening. He was commando... And that long, hard body was made for sin.

ASH WEDNESDAY

Sooooo.. do you already know Ash? Let´s help your memory!

He was wearing black Oakley sunglasses and a long, pirate-style coat over a black Misfits T-shirt. That being said, Johnny Depp has nothing on this man when it came to sheer sex appeal. Acheron oozed it from every pore.

Polite. Deadly. Gorgeous. Respectful. Sexy beyond human endurance. Oh, someone put a bow on this man, she definitely wanted to take him home.

(Dream Chaser, Sherrilyn Kenyon)

Wearing a black tank top, he had the best set of arms she'd ever seen. Tanned and gorgeous, every muscle was honed to perfection ... and it wasn't just his arms. The sweat from his hammering made the shirt cling to a muscled back that had been custom made for licking.

(Acheron, Sherrilyn Kenyon)

ASH WEDNESDAY

Holy gods of Olympus. He was unbelievably tall, lean and ripped. His shirt clung to that perfect body and didn't quite reach the waistband of his pants. Instead it exposed a mouth watering glimpse of a hard tanned washboard stomach. His jeans rode so low on this narrow hips, dipping down so much that it made her wonder if he had on underwear.
He wore a pair of dark sunglasses and was chewing gum in the sexiest manner she'd ever seen. Sweaty and gorgeous, he reached up to pull the ball cap off .. and set free a mane of coal black hair with a red stripe in the front. No .. surely this wasn't ... Of course it was. She'd know that meticulous, sexual lope anywhere.

(Acheron, Sherrilyn Kenyon)

ASH WEDNESDAY

THE GOD. THE MAN. THE LEGEND.

**HAPPY ASH WEDNESDAY!**

Happy Ash Wednesday!

She would try picturing him in his underwear, but that was even more disturbing since all it did was make her hot and even more nervous ... He had to be the only man alive who could pull off intimidating in his tighty-whities. God, what if all that massive hotness was commando?

(Acheron, Sherrilyn Kenyon)

HAPPY ASH WEDNESDAY :-)

Ash Wednesday!

She licked her lips as she ran a hot gaze over his naked body. "Give me six orgasms within one hour and you can have ten (hours). I swear it on the river Styx."
Ash laughed softly at that. Even after all these centuries, she still underestimated his abilities. Six orgasms and a feeding. Good. He'd be done with her in less than fifteen minutes ...

For all fans of Darynda Jones :-)

If you love Darynda Jones and her book First Grave on the Right as much as I do (you can find my review further down on this blog), you´ll be excited to hear that Mrs Jones has given us something goooood! A free short story that will hold you over until Second Grave on the Left.

The story is called For I Have Sinned and it is great!

This time we see the events from the other side (pun intended), from the point of view of a young woman who just died and meets Charley. The story is again funny and easy to read and we meet Reyes!!!! If not for any other reason, it is soooo worth reading only for him!! Haven´t you read First Grave on the Right and you don´t know Reyes? Let me introduce..

He leaned against the doorjamb, arms crossed over a wide chest, a breathtaking grin tilting one corner of his mouth. But he was different. Dark. Fierce. The air around him seemed to stir as though he were turbulence itself. And he seemed to be made only partially of flesh and blood. The rest of him was smoke and shadows, and the mere sight of him, the magnificence of him, weakened my knees.

~ Simply put, he was stunning. Thick black hair. Full mouth. Piercingly dark eyes with long, inky lashes. And quite possibly the most devilish grin I’d ever seen.

I finished the short story in no time and the only thing I didn´t like is that it is.. well, too short! And trust me, you´ll want more!!

Just as a reminder (I am sure all of you who have read the first book already know this), book 2 comes out on August 16th. Don´t forget to write down the date of Reyes´s return!!!!

REVIEW: How to Marry a Millionaire Vampire by Kerrelyn Sparks

Title: How to Marry a Millionaire Vampire
Author: Kerrelyn Sparks
Series: Love at Stake (book 1)
Genre: Paranormal Romance

Reviewed by: Sonia

I loved this book from the beginning. The writing style is exactly the right combination of enough dialogues (what I like), good characters and most especially humor. Humor is what made me fall in love with this book from the first page.

Roman Draganesti is a 500-hundred old vampire who is the head of one of 4 world´s biggest vampire covens and also owns a multi-million dollar company that produces artificial blood. For humans, he is a hero who saved millions of human lives with his artificial blood and for the secret society of vampires he is the one who made most of the vampires to stop drinking blood from humans. But there is other group who wants to keep the old tradition and refuse to drink anything else than fresh tasty blood from a warm human being.

The hilarious part of the book starts from the beginning when Roman breaks his fang when he tries to bite a sexdoll. Yup, sexdoll. But it´s not quite as it seems :-) Anyway he needs a dentist who would put his fang back and he has only couple of hours to find one because when the sun goes up and he falls asleep, his body will heal the wound and he will forever be a one-fanged vampire. But appearently there is no vampire dentist so he has to find a mortal one.

The only dentist that works during the night is Shanna. She is living her life under false name as part of the FBI witness protection program. And appearently this night is exactly the night when her enemies find her and try to kill her. After Roman rescues her, he takes her with him and tries to convince her to put his fang back. But what a shock for him when he discovers that she is the first person in 500 years who is able to resist his mesmerizing. And she really refuses to put what she thinks is a wolf fang to his mouth.

Roman and Shanna are great for each other. She is funny and optimistic under all circumstances and she is exactly what a depressed vampire who gave up everything good in his life needs. And if you love men in kilts, you will love this book because Roman has an entire security team of them :-) I really loved Connor, I hope he gets his own book!

One of my favourite scenes is when Shanna finally lets Roman enter her mind and he can hypnotize her to put his fang back. But the unexpected thing is that under his hypnosion she is also able to read his mind and he surely has other things on his mind that teeth :-)

"Do you want me to implant your tooth now?" She tilted her head, frowning a bit. "Or shall we have oral sex?"
Roman stared at Shanna. Good God. Not only had she read him like a book, but she was apparently willing to have sex with him. Amazing.
"Sir!" Laszlo's voice rose an octave. He twirled a button with his fingers. "There isn't enough time for—for two treatments. You must decide between your—your tooth or your…" With a grimace, he glanced at Roman's swollen jeans.
My fang or my yang? The latter strained against his zipper, as if it wanted to leap out and shoot its mouth off. Pick me, pick me!

As I said, the humor in this book is great. At least in the first half.

But there were also some things that bothered me. First, the using of expression „God´s Blood!“ on every page, over and over and over again. I also didn´t like that the author decided to go with ALL the vampire myths from garlic, silver, crosses to invisibility in the mirror and sleeping in coffins but mostly the whole catholic background, vampires being considered as demons from Satan who will go to hell and all that. The humor was much less seen in the second half of the book what I consider the greatest loss.

So with everything said, I have really mixed feelings how to rate this book. The first half of it I would rate between 4 and 5 stars but the second half would be 3 stars only. But because I really loved the humor in the first part, I give this book weaker 4 stars.

MY RATING: weaker ****

Review: Dominic (Lords of Satyr #4)

People, people, people. You may be wondering why I am reviewing another Lords of Satyr book after the devastation that was book three. Let me tell you something about myself...I am not a quitter and I knew the next book in this series just had to be better. You know what? I was right!

This book really was two stories that focused on Emma (Jane's sister) and Vincent (Jane's son). The series has moved further into the future (Vincent is 26).

Let's talk about Emma first. Also, I did not mention in my other review that this series takes place in the 1800s in Italy. Now back to Emma. Emma has grown into a delicate woman that feels the need to please others while her insides are screaming NO. I'm not going to completely judge her since it is the 1800s. Sweet delicate Emma is now married to a Satyr relative. Even though she is married, she meets Dominic. Dominic is from Elseworld and is critical to keeping the peace in Elseworld. Let me tell you a little somethin' somethin' about Dominic. He is a hot bastard! The had one of the most erotic sex scenes I have read in sometime...Emma, Dominic, an extra and a mirror. I had to fan myself. Hot monkey mirror sex indeed.

The second part of the story focuses on Vincent who is no longer a child. Vincent is a man and the author was so determined to make the reader think of Vincent as a man that she CONSTANTLY mentions his "man-ness". Eleven and seven, ladies. Eleven and seven.

I wasn't sure why these two character's stories were included in one "book" but I understood at the end. These stories were not only critical as they were slightly entwined but Ms. Amber is making sure the Satyr audience knows that the offspring are now in control of Satyr lands.

Review: Lyon (Lords of Satyr #3)

Title: Lyon (Lords of Satyr #3)
Author: Elizabeth Amber
Series: Lords of Satyr
Genre: Paranormal/Multi-Equipped Men

Reviewed by: Vhampy

This is the third book in the Lords of Satyr series. If you have not read the first books in this series (Nicholas and Raine), don't start with this book. You will be confused.

The Lords of Satyr are a group of brothers that live in the human world but also have "magical" powers that allow them to interact with beings of Elseworld. Elseworld contains all types of beings we are accustomed too: fairies, mermaids, centaurs, etc.

This book focuses on the third brother Lyon. I had high expectations for him because in the first too books Lyon appeared to be the "fun" one that had a voracious appetite for the ladies and would be able to pleasure them for days on end. Well...guess who should not have gone into this book with high expectations? What a thud. Sure there were some sexual situations but no hot monkey sex. By the way...I guess I should mention at this point why the Lords of Satyr are multi-equipped men. Here is what makes these men magical: once a month they sprout an extra penis. Yes, my friends. Two penises that require dual entrances into the ladies. Put those ingredients in your pot and let it simmer.

Now back to the book. There were some surprises but overall I was bored. I'm going to place blame on the main female character. Snooze. Snooze. Snooze. I still can't figure out why Lyon likes her. They don't seem like a good fit for each other. Maybe their connection will make more sense in the other Satyr books.
